Women's Health Week: Q&A with Steph

To celebrate Women’s Health Week, we thought we’d sit down with Steph and chat with her about the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle and how it has positively impacted her own physical and mental health. We also got her advice for other women looking to improve their health and fitness!

Q: How did you first get into health & fitness?

A: I discovered health and fitness back in 2013. I was working full-time as a hairdresser when I was approached by one of my best friends at the time who had just taken on a fitness challenge where she had completely transformed her body. She told me, "Steph you have to see my coach, he's the best!". I was inspired and had to be a part of this magic!

Little did I know at the time that by hiring Joel (Mr TNT himself) as my coach, I would not only be transforming my world, but I would also find the love of my life.

That's the amazing thing about fitness, once you put your health and body as your number one priority, every other area of your life will transform!

Q: What benefits have you noticed from living a healthy lifestyle?

A: The biggest benefit from putting my training and nutrition as a number one priority has been the effect it's had on my mental health.

Over the past 9-10 years of living this lifestyle, I've had numerous life challenges arise, as we all do! But if it wasn't for my training, I don't think I would be where I am with the strength I have today.

Q: Take us through a typical day of what you eat

A: I'm very ‘routine and boring’ when it comes to my nutrition. I've never had a problem with eating the same thing every day - it works!

Although we have SO many recipes and delicious foods on the TNT menu, my day usually consists of:

  • Breakfast: a protein and berry smoothie
  • Lunch: either lemon and garlic marinated chicken or fish with salad
  • Afternoon snack: an apple and a tin of tuna
  • Dinner: chicken, fish or red meat with sweet potato - I get creative with the sweet potato and alternate between mash, chips, or make it into a Shepherd's pie!
  • Dessert: coconut yoghurt with protein powder and blueberries!

I also have days where I just enjoy, treat myself and have no plan at all!

Q: What does your training routine look like?

A: I train 4-5 days per week just following the TNT programs. I love full-body training and I’m absolutely obsessed with the Stairmaster! I like to find a set of stairs or jump on the Stairmaster at least twice per week!

Q: What’s your advice for women who want to improve their health & fitness but don’t know where to start?

A: The biggest tip I could give would be to just make the decision to commit. When you decide to transform your body you need to go into whatever program you're doing with certainty and a vision of what you will achieve.

There is no use starting any fitness challenge with the ‘hope’ that it will work. If you decide, commit and believe, then you'll achieve the results you're looking for. Mindset really is everything.

It’s also important to make sure you really understand the lifestyle you're signing up for. When you're looking for a coach, make sure you can see that they actually practice what they preach and follow their own advice. It's one thing to achieve results in an 8-week time frame, it's another to SUSTAIN them long-term as a lifestyle!

Find someone who has achieved the results you're looking for and that actually gets their clients results, decide to commit and give it everything you've got!
